How to get your clients involved over the holidays

COVU Insurance Agency Tips Insurance Advice Insurance Agency Clients Blog Agencies Holidays
As the days get shorter and the weather cools, it can be tough to know how to reach out to your clients. After all, Christmas is a time for family and friends, and as much as we are a part of our employees' lives, the last thing most people want is to get bombarded with reminders of insurance premiums and other issues.
That being said, there is a place in the celebration for your agency.
Here are 5 of the best ways you can stay in touch with your clients over the holidays

  1. Blog about Christmas safety hazards

They are traveling to see family, Christmas trees next to a crackling fire, and delicious cooking in the kitchen. All critical and cherished holiday traditions. But it is important to remember to be careful and take precautions. In 2019 alone, holiday accidents left 15,000 people in emergency rooms. And that's just from decorating injuries. Add trees catching fire, travel accidents, and other issues, and the holidays are full of unseen dangers. Writing short and sweet safety tips for customers centered around the holidays that provide them with value, while still keeping a respectful distance from their personal festivities is a good way to stay top of mind for your consumers.

2. Holiday cards

We know you’ve probably heard it before, but constant communication is good for business. And no kind of communication is easier and more welcome than a personalized holiday card. Customers who receive holiday cards from businesses feel a deeper connection with the company and for small agencies, this can translate into loyalty and good word of mouth. However, it is important to remember to put time and care into any card you send. A bad card will be not memorable at best and actively discourage customers at worst.

3. Community fundraisers or charitable causes

Whatever holiday you celebrate, winter is often a time for giving. Your agency can become a part of that tradition by writing blogs or sending out mailers and emails with news of your own giving campaigns or your staff's favorite charities and volunteer opportunities. This will Inform clients of your charitable causes, or, even better, get them involved. Studies show that companies that donate more are considered more generous by the public. So you can strengthen your community and do the right thing at the same time.

4. Local holiday activities

Maybe you want to highlight the annual snowball fight, or an apple cider competition that's heating up. Whatever the local holiday fun, your agency can get involved. Sending out seasonal newspapers or emails with lists of fun local activities and even participating yourself means you stay in touch with your community and customers while showing your lighter side. Not everything has to be premiums and underwriting (as important as those are)

5. Fun contest or other small humoring touches

When agencies and customers interact throughout the year, they can both forget that insurance is not just about numbers, it’s about people. And for most of the year, your employees can fade into the background. But during the holiday season is a great time to show the world your team and trumpet their accomplishments and personalities. Post an ugly Christmas sweater party, recap yearly accomplishments, or competitions for the best-decorated tree. Small humanizing touches let customers see behind the agency and to the real people who make it run.
Most of all, the winter months are for coming together and celebrating what connects us. At COVU, we believe insurance started as a collective pooling of resources to help those who were down and out. And your agency can use these months as an opportunity to continue that tradition.
